Fall Baking

The last of 8 dozen cookies I baked on Thursday.
Some for company, some to give to the neighbors, and some for the men who are still finishing up on the roof.

A Book

“Now” - said a good book unto me -
“Open my pages and you shall see
Jewels of wisdom and treasures fine,
Gold and silver in every line,
And you may claim them if you but will
Open my pages and take your fill.

“Open my pages and run them o’er,
Take what you choose of my golden store.
Be you greedy, I shall not care -
All that you seize I shall gladly spare;
There is never a lock on my treasure doors,
Come - here are my jewels, make them yours!

“I am just a book on your mantel shelf,
But I can be part of your living self;
If only you’ll travel my pages through,
Then I will travel the world with you.
As two wines blended make better wine,
Blend your mind with these truths of mine.

“I’ll make you fitter to talk with men,
I’ll touch with silver the lines you pen,
I’ll lead you nearer the truth you seek,
I’ll strengthen you when your faith grows weak -
This place on your shelf is a prison cell,
Let me come into your mind to dwell!”

We Started School on Monday

We are studying swimming creatures in science.

This is a project to show the way the world's water is distributed.
The containers on the side of the bath tub represent the following:
Frozen Water, Underground Water , Lakes, Soil Water, Rivers and Streams...

... and the water left in the bath tub is the Oceans.

We got this project from Exploring God's Creation by Geoffrey Garvey.

The Ocean

We have been studying Swimming creatures in science. One of the things we have learned is this. The earth is not billions of years old, because if it was the oceans would be much saltier.
The oceans are actually getting saltier. This is because salt is constantly entering the ocean, from rivers and volcanos, but it can not leave the ocean very easily. If the ocean was billions of years old, it would be a lot saltier.

Our Long Hike

We took a long hike today.
It was supposed to be a 7 mile hike.
3.5 miles up and then 3.5 miles down.

We saw a beaver pond.
When we got close to the end (we were about 12,000 ft) we had to guess where the path was.
That part was supposed to be ½ mile, but I think we went farther, because we wound around so much.

When we got near the top it was beautiful.

On the way down we stopped at Lower Mohawk Lake.
We were so hot and tired that we stopped and dipped our feet in the water.
It was freezing, but it felt so good.
When we were most of the way down it started to rain.
It seemed to take forever to walk to the car.
Our hike ended up taking about 6 hours.
It was well worth it though.

We saw lots of chipmunks.
One of them even got on my shoes.
I didn't get a picture though.

A Little Woman

“It was a cheerful, hopeful letter, full of … fatherly love …’I know… that they will be loving children to you, will do their duty faithfully, fight their bosom enemies bravely, and conquer themselves so beautifully that when I come back to them I may be fonder and prouder than ever of my little women.’” Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Becca

I am thirteen years old living in a Christian Homeschooling family with my Mother, my father, my sister Hanna (9) and my brother Spencer (10).

We are currently going through the adoption process, hoping to adopt an infant from somewhere in the United States, praying and trusting God that he has the right child/children for our family.
